This 22-year-old male came to World Class Orthodontics as a transfer case. He was already in braces but still unhappy with his facial profile, bite and with previous orthodontist’s progress. We used metal braces, BSS mini screws and lower wisdom tooth extractions to correct his reverse overjet and create a stronger, more balanced chin and jawline – without jaw surgery.

Chief concerns:
The patient felt that his lower jaw looked too prominent, his chin was weak from the side, and his lips did not meet comfortably. He had already worn braces elsewhere but did not see the facial change he was hoping for.

Our Non-Surgical Treatment Plan
Instead of jaw surgery, we designed a facially driven orthodontic plan using metal braces and mini screws to move the teeth and support the soft tissues:

Mechanics – En-masse retraction of the mandibular dentition on TAD anchorage to correct anterior crossbite and achieve Class I molar/canine, with vertical control of lower anterior facial height.

Q1. Can every Class III case be treated without surgery?
Not always. Some Class III patterns are too severe or involve significant skeletal discrepancies that are best corrected in combination with jaw surgery. After a full evaluation, we will explain all suitable options, including non-surgical possibilities where appropriate.
Q2. How long does non-surgical Class III treatment usually take?
Treatment duration depends on the severity of the bite and facial imbalance. In this case, the total time was about 25 months. Some cases finish earlier, while more complex movements may take longer.
Q3. Are mini screws (TADs) painful?
Mini screws are placed under local anaesthesia and most patients report only mild discomfort for a day or two. They act like internal anchors to help move teeth more precisely.
Q4. Will my profile really change with braces alone?
In selected cases, controlling tooth position and vertical dimension can improve chin definition, lip posture and lower facial height. However, the degree of visible change is different for each patient.
